Born Abroad. Rising as One Generation.

They are Abroad-Born Chinese (ABC).

A Next Generation (ABC Next Gen) shaped by more than one culture - grounded in modern life, contributing across disciplines, cultures, and societies.

Generations Abroad Media (GAM) exists to honor, document, and present this generation with pride.

Hand Writing Note

Founding Editor’s Note

Over the past decades, ABC parents built lives across borders through education, work, and long-term commitment to their children’s growth. Their children, ABC Next Gen, are now visible across universities, professions, creative fields, and communities worldwide. They are confident, capable, and deeply shaped by more than one culture.

Yet what was missing was not talent or opportunity - it was a shared space.

GAM exists to document, connect, and support this community - not as a static archive, but as a living, evolving network. Here, stories are shared, skills are exchanged, and experience moves across generations. Parents are not background figures, and Next Gen are not simply subjects. Both are active contributors to a community built on trust, care, and mutual respect.

This is not a platform built around content alone.
It is built around people.

My hope is that GAM becomes a place where life is recorded honestly, growth is supported collectively, and connections extend beyond screens - into conversations, collaborations, and shared paths forward.

Welcome to the GAM community.

Thinking about 2026

Y. · Parent · New Jersey

2026 feels like a year where I want to slow down a little. To notice everyday moments more - meals, short conversations, quiet evenings and not rush past them.

Thinking about 2026

H. · Parent · Vancouver

When I think about 2026, I’m learning to hold things more lightly. Less urgency to fix, less need to advise. More trust that growth is happening even when I can’t see it clearly.

Thinking about 2026

L. · Parent · San Jose

As 2026 approaches, I find myself thinking less about plans and more about presence. I hope to listen better - not just to what my child says, but to what they don’t always put into words.

Felt rushed all day for no clear reason. Slowed down in the evening. The day felt different immediately.

Y. · Parent · New Jersey

Short phone call tonight.
No big topics, just checking in. Sometimes that’s enough.

K. · Next Gen · Austin

Ordered groceries online and forgot one key item. Ended up improvising dinner. It worked better than expected.

D. · Next Gen · Los Angeles

Took a different route home today. Same distance, completely different mood.
Might do this more often.
