Hand Writing Note

Founding Editor’s Note - To You, ABC Next Gen

You were born abroad, and you are rising as one generation.

You are the Abroad-Born Chinese (ABC) Next Gen: raised across cultures, grounded in modern life, and contributing openly across universities, professions, creative fields, and communities worldwide.

For the first time in history, a generation like yours, is fully visible - not as immigrants or descendants of migration, but as confident participants and leaders in the societies where you grew up.

This recognition is unprecedented.

It marks a turning point -

Old images of Abroad Chinese, shaped by Chinatowns, labor histories, and survival narratives, no longer define the present.

You represent something new: a generation shaped by more than one culture, fluent in complexity, and trusted by the world.

You belong not only to an identity, but to the societies you shape, the histories you are changing, and the future you are building.

What makes this generation remarkable is not that you are extraordinary.
It is that, taken together, you are real - thoughtful, capable, ethical, creative, and grounded.

Some of you move quietly. Some confidently. Some lead early. Others grow steadily.
Yet across different countries, disciplines, and life paths, there is something deeply shared.

When we look closely, we begin to see it clearly.

Generations Abroad Media (GAM) exists to honor this turning point and to present this generation as it truly is, with pride and accuracy.

GAM is a stage for vivid and meaningful moments of life, seen from multiple perspectives.
Here, real experiences are reflected through stories, conversations, films, and programs -
created by Next Gen voices, parents, peers, mentors, and experts across fields.

Through these mirrors, you may recognize others, and more importantly, see yourself more clearly and more fully.

This platform is not built to define you, but to support you, connect you, and reflect the depth of who you already are.

Let us continue to change history and contribute to our world - together.

Welcome to the GAM community.

What comes next

Generations Abroad Media (GAM)

Thinking about 2026

Y. · Parent · New Jersey

2026 feels like a year where I want to slow down a little. To notice everyday moments more - meals, short conversations, quiet evenings and not rush past them.

Thinking about 2026

H. · Parent · Vancouver

When I think about 2026, I’m learning to hold things more lightly. Less urgency to fix, less need to advise. More trust that growth is happening even when I can’t see it clearly.

Thinking about 2026

L. · Parent · San Jose

As 2026 approaches, I find myself thinking less about plans and more about presence. I hope to listen better - not just to what my child says, but to what they don’t always put into words.

Community Member

Felt rushed all day for no clear reason. Slowed down in the evening. The day felt different immediately.

Y. · Parent · New Jersey

Short phone call tonight.
No big topics, just checking in. Sometimes that’s enough.

K. · Next Gen · Austin

Ordered groceries online and forgot one key item. Ended up improvising dinner. It worked better than expected.

D. · Next Gen · Los Angeles

Took a different route home today. Same distance, completely different mood.
Might do this more often.
